Remote access

Use Glade from your phone, tablet or another computer. Devices connect straight to your machine, with no relay or hosted service in between.

Remote access lets you check on agents, answer approvals and keep work moving from another device. The device connects straight to the machine that runs Glade. There is no relay or hosted service in between, so that machine has to be awake and reachable.

Turn it on

Open Settings → Remote access, turn on Allow other devices, and choose how devices reach this machine:

With Tailscale signed in here and on your devices, Glade serves itself at https://<machine>.<tailnet>.ts.net. Traffic is encrypted and works from anywhere on your tailnet. The first time, Tailscale may ask you to turn on HTTPS for your tailnet; Glade shows the link.

Devices on the same Wi-Fi, or on a VPN, connect over plain HTTP. The traffic is not encrypted, so Glade asks before turning this on. Use it only on networks you trust.

Glade listens on port 3773 for these connections and refuses any that arrive from a public internet address. Turning access off disconnects every device at once.

Pair a device

Show a pairing code

Choose Pair a device. The code works once and expires after five minutes.

Scan or open it

Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera, or open the link on another computer.

Use Glade

The device opens Glade with your projects and chats. It stays paired across restarts.

Paired devices are listed under Devices. Remove signs a device out immediately.

A paired device can do what work needs: chats, approvals and questions, files, Git, terminals, settings and agents. It can’t pair or remove devices, use Computer Use, or open the machine’s editor.

Pair with another machine’s Glade

The desktop app can be the paired device too. On the other machine, choose Pair a device and copy the link. Here, choose Pair with a machine under Other machines in Settings → Remote access and paste it. That machine’s projects and chats appear in your sidebar, and new chats can run there from Remote in the composer’s machine menu.

Troubleshooting

  • Not reachable yet: turn on Tailscale HTTPS or the local network. With both off, there is no address a device can use.
  • The phone can’t open the link on the local network: check that both are on the same network and that the firewall lets Glade accept connections. Windows asks the first time.
  • The Tailscale address hangs right after turning on HTTPS: Tailscale is getting a certificate, which can take a few minutes the first time.
  • Chats stop when the Mac sleeps: while remote access is on, Glade keeps the Mac from idle sleep, but closing the lid still sleeps it. Keep Mac awake in Settings → Chat keeps it awake while agents work.

Run Glade on a server

For a machine with no desktop, a Linux server or a spare Mac, install Glade on its own and use it from your phone, your laptop, or the desktop app on another computer.

Install

Run this on the server. It needs no root:

curl -fsSL https://github.com/berkinory/Glade/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sh

The installer picks the right build (Linux x64 with glibc 2.31 or newer, or macOS), checks it against the release checksum and installs it into ~/.glade. Glade then starts on boot through a systemd user service or a launchd agent, turns on remote access over Tailscale HTTPS when Tailscale runs, and shows a QR code to pair your phone.

Option Does
--lan Also accepts devices on the local network.
--version X.Y.Z Installs a specific release.
--no-service Doesn’t start Glade on boot.

Pass options after sh -s --, for example curl … | sh -s -- --lan. Agent CLIs still need to be installed and signed in on the server.

Manage it

Command What it does
glade status Whether Glade runs, and the addresses devices use.
glade pair A QR code and link that pair one device, valid for 5 minutes.
glade remote on [--lan] Lets paired devices in.
glade remote off Closes access and disconnects every device.
glade start, stop, restart Controls the server.
glade logs [-f] Shows the server log.
glade update Installs the latest release and restarts.
glade uninstall [--purge] Removes Glade. --purge also removes projects and chats.

Use it from the desktop app

A server installed this way can also be added under Settings → SSH hosts; the desktop app reuses it instead of installing again. An SSH host runs its own Glade too, so a phone can pair with it directly from the host’s … menu and keep working while your computer is off. On Windows, use the desktop app with remote access instead.
